Gene Holtan was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, and was a commercial artist through the 1960s and 1970s. In 1974, he settled down in Santa Cruz and took on abstract painting as his main focus for the last 16 years of his life. He illustrated for the Saturday Evening Post, Rolling Stone and Ramparts magazines and will always remain one of our community's art treasures.
